The thing for me were Frankfurt better than Lyon or Sevilla.
I don't think so, not much in those 3.
When it mattered we better than both those 2 teams in the 2nd leg.
I still think we are better than Frankfurt. Do the players believe that ?
That will be the ultimate difference.
The over hype of the first leg did us no good.
Can we stay in the match till 30 mins.
If the score was reversed we we hold back for a draw knowing that would get you through ?
The logic is Frankfurt go for it and kill the game in the first 15 minutes. Which may suit us...or it may suit Frankfurt seeing they went 1 up in the first minute

It never should’ve been pinned to begin with.

Had loads posting on the ‘team for’ thread because they didn’t notice this one pinned at the top.

Unpin this shit and let it fall into history.

Stewie - Yep, no rush. What works against us though is when other sides need to go for it in the last say 20 mins they have good options on the bench, but we don't have that. He didn't even want to sling Yarm on late doors on Thursday.

Not going to pretend that I slavishly watch the bundesliga every week but it doesn't take more than a quick look at them to see why they have a crap home record but have had some great away results. They were excellent in transition, and at times have 6 men in midfield when they don't have the ball. A lot like us really, they're a threat from set pieces and excellent on the counter. Can't say I'd be worried about them at all if they had to try to break us down.

Which is why this result is so shit. A draw would have been great. In that sense, actually think its us that needs to be cautious (cautious not the right word... patient)... if we go there and chase the game we could get hammered. We only need to win by one goal (initially) and the longer its 0-0 the more twitchy they'll become because they know we can score from a set piece at any given moment. Be patient and the opportunities will come. Don't get me wrong, would be lovely if they come in 50 seconds but if not no drama.

Moyes needs to make some tactical changes. If we play the same team and say way then I think the tie is over with. Honestly think Bowen up top with Antonio on the right and Benny on the left would offer much more threat.

Pedro - I don't know enough about them to comment directly, but I've never believed a team of fired up footballers can be told in the dressing before a big game to go out and be cautious etc, yes don't go gung ho, but you can't limit footballers as it's not in the make up of a footballer not to want to do good things on the pitch. Then if you have a raucous home crowd urging you on how do you not react to that and not want to get up the pitch, etc. Will be interesting.

Manuel agreed.

It’s not ideal losing the home tie in any leg and does make it harder.

Either way the second leg at their place was always going to the tough.

Had Bowen scored late on it would have changed the mood massively. We would have walked out buzzing and saying we will win next week.

In reality 2-2 doesn’t make much difference to us as we would still need to score unless we fancy pens?

It makes a difference to Frankfurt who know that they can afford the draw. I don’t get the sense they are a team who like defending for 90. Even if they sit back and hit us on the break it will help us counter attack them. We actually want them to come at us.
If not we have to be better keeping the ball and focus on the set piece.

For everyone and Moyes saying our set prices were rubbish - we still managed to score from one which again gives us confidence.

At end of day 90 or 120 mins from a final.
1 - 0 down.

Don’t like saying it but got to take some heart from Chelsea beating Bayern in Bayern’s stadium for their final and also Spurs coming back from 3-0 down.

This is all experience and something we can hopefully use next year (if we qualify).
We might find with way we setup we will rarely win a home leg by 2 or 3 goals. We will look to stay in the and then win the away.
Who knows.

Either way I hope we beat Arsenal as that will give us a lift and then it’s game on at Frankfurt.
Frankfurt don’t forget play late on Monday night.

Will be interesting how Frankfurt play it, will they sit back hit us on the break? Their home record ain’t great lots of draws

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Eintracht Frankfurt - Official Match Thread
Someone on here made what I thought was a very good point yesterday when he said even if the first game was a draw we would still be looking to win the second leg anyway (who wants pens) kind of hit home with me a bit. Come Thursday I'll probably have us winning 0-3 :-)

Goose, you are right, but if we score first even if it's in the 90th minute, that changes the whole dynamic of the tie. In fact, it would probably be better that we scrape a goal late on as the momentum will be with us.

Hardly any difference in Home results in the six seasons since moving to Stratford compared to the last six top flight seasons at Upton Park.

Stratford W 43% D 23% L 34%
Upton Park W 40% D 26% L 33%

Lets face it, we haven't been very good at home since we moved to Stratford. Even when we've won it hasn't been convincing. A lot of our better results have been away. I think we could surprise them.

I hope they are absolute dog shit at home and completely fold under the pressure.

But they don’t HAVE to win and they appear to have drawn a fair few of those home games.

Wait and see . Even their own fans were telling whufc fans how bad their home form is . Anyone who's bothered looking at the list soldy put up earlier realises it. I can't name some of the sides who have beaten them .

If it were the other way around we’d definitely be more cautious.

Point is they don’t HAVE to win, we do.

Boleyn 8420 they were always going to play above themselves against them . There's far more pressure on them now .

All the people saying they don't have to attack . Would you be happy watching us defend for 90 minutes .? They won't be either. there's a reason their home forms is so poor .

So many of our players below par last night…

Cresswell…Johnson…Fornals …Soucek…Lanzini…
The rest were ok…with Rice exceptional…

Benrahma worried Teri defense…

Bowen unlucky not to get 1 or 2…

Antonio had good spells and scored…

Dawson and returning Zouma with assist did well..

Shocked by quick goal…never recovered composure and failed to capitalize o superior stats
